2008 AUR Meeting Highlights NEW!

Call for founding members for the newly created Alliance of Clinician-Educators in
Radiology (ACER)

At the recent 55th Annual Association of University Radiologists (AUR) meeting in Denver, the AUR Board of Directors approved the creation of the Alliance for Clinician-Educators in Radiology (ACER). This new alliance will join the AUR family of organizations, and work to advance the interests and efforts of this large and growing segment of academic radiology faculty. ACER's mission will dovetail with that of other AUR groups and focus on the growth and advancement of clinician-educators in radiology.

ACER's Mission includes:
1) Providing a formal organization and forum for clinician-educators to meet, exchange ideas, and learn new skills that promote and advance the careers of clinician-educators.
2) Providing programming at the annual AUR meeting targeted towards the needs of clinician-educators
3) Developing and maintaining an information and networking database for the benefit, awareness, and nurturing of clinician-educators
4) Promoting and developing educational research activities relevant to clinician-educators

AUR Membership benefits include:
Roster of Active Members of the Association of University Radiologists
Opportunities to network with current leaders in academic radiology (e.g., chairs, program directors, medical student clerkship directors, and researchers);
12 issues per year of Academic Radiology, the official journal of the AUR;
An invitation to attend the AUR Annual Meeting, featuring scientific presentations and discussion forums about current topics affecting academic radiology;
Discounted annual meeting registration fee ($220 less than other registration categories);
Opportunities to present research findings;
The opportunity to compete for national awards specifically designed for AUR members;
The opportunity to participate in radiology organizations that focus on clinician-educator faculty pathways, medical student and resident education, radiology research and health services research.

How clinician-educators can earn additional resources to accomplish their educational goals
Exchange of ideas with APDR and AMSER members regarding current LCME and ACGME regulations that directly affect the role of clinician-educators in fulfilling the educational mission of their department and institution.
Development of a peer-to-peer review and mentoring programs
Help in developing a teaching portfolio
Learning to navigate your promotion process
Learn web-based teaching methods and creation of electronic teaching files
Learn effective presentation skills
Development of a national standard or benchmark for promotion in the clinician-educator track
Instructional design
Educational learning theories
Creating an incentive plan for clinician-educators
