1. Residents are required to have a minimum of 12 months of training in radiology prior to independent call. This is an increase from the currently required 6 months. This will have a profound impact on some residency programs. See the following link for the updated specifics:

2. New Nuclear Medicine Requirements: A resident who is taking the oral boards and has fulfilled the NRC requirement will be eligible to be an NRC Aurhorized User (AU). This will require 4 months (16 weeks) of nuclear medicine training including 3 documented oral administrations of <33 mCi I-131. Those who do not have the AU-eligible status will have to apply to the NRC for AU status via the “alternate pathway” that will require additional classroom and practical experiences. Also, candidates taking oral boards will be tested on NRC items.
