Laurie L. Fajardo, MD, MBA, FACR, President of the AUR Research & Education Foundation, is pleased to announce that the AUR R&E Foundation recently received a grant in the amount of $250,000 from the late Harvey Picker, MD and the Branta Foundation.  The AUR will use the grant to fund a program in Ethics and Professionalism to address critical gaps in the education radiology trainees and in the continuing education of practicing radiologists.

The AUR will solicit applications from the academic radiology community with the aim of promoting the study and teaching of ethics and professionalism in radiology.  The goals of the program are as follows:

  • Elevate the status of ethics and professionalism in radiology and establish it as an area worthy of scholarly pursuit;
  • Support the development of faculty to teach ethics and professionalism in radiology to medical students, residents, fellows, and practitioners;
  • Support the development and dissemination of enduring teaching materials in ethics and professionalism in radiology.

The ultimate goal is to improve patient care, improve patient safety, and enhance social responsibility in medical care and practice, within the radiology community.

The Association of University Radiologists deeply appreciates the Branta Foundation’s support of this important and timely education and research program.

Additional information will be available during the summer of 2010.
